Our vision of Best Care is to provide person-centred, co-ordinated, right and safe care for every patient, every time, everywhere.  Delivering Best Care within the complexity of our health system is not always easy.  We would like to recognise the provision of Best Care by Footscray 1West, the Footscray Emergency Department and the entire support staff and team at Footscray Hospital. We share the words of praise from Brian about his recent stay and the care he received.

To everyone at Footscray Hospital Emergency and Ward 1 West. My name is Brian  and I was admitted to Emergency on Friday morning 6 August 2021 and discharged from Ward 1 West Bed 9 on Sunday 8 August 2021.

What a wonderful group of people you are!!! Thank you so so much for looking after me. I cannot speak highly enough of you. And I do not only refer to doctors and nurses, buy everyone – those who change beds, mop floors, deliver (yummy) meals, do obs in the middle of the night, put my mobile on charge – everyone!!

When lying in my bed and listening to everyone going about their tasks, I thought what is the collective word for a group of health care workers. Well. I’ve made one. It’s a buzz. You were all buzzing around doing your part to ensure everything functions. Like a bees in a beehive, everyone has a role to do and you buzz around doing it.

So to the Buzz of Emergency, thank you. Sadly, I cannot remember everyone’s names. But there was Dr Ali, Dr David, Nurse Katie to name three. And to the lovely young orderly who “drove” me to ultrasound, thanks for the chat.

To the Buzz of Ward 1 West, thank you. This is where I’ll get into trouble because I cannot remember everyone. But Dr David again, Nurses Maddie, Dixit, Betul, Nora. I know there were more.

Thank you to my senior surgeon who I did not meet. And finally to my wonderful anaesthetist who made me feel so relaxed (no pun intended!) beforehand with his lovely caring and comforting approach. As a single 61yo man living alone, this sort of care and human support is something I don’t often get but which is so important for us all.

I will finish by saying that although the hospital may be getting a little old (like me!), it’s not the building that matters. It’s what inside and that’s all of you. The Buzz of health care workers that keep society going.

Keep up the great work everyone.

Kind regards,
Brian
