Hundreds of residents from Melbourne’s inner west rolled up their sleeves at a pop-up vaccination clinic at VU Whitten Oval on 2-3 October.

The pop-up clinic was a partnership between Western Health, Altona North GP Respiratory Clinic – Commonwealth Vaccination Centre, Cirqit Health, Western Bulldogs, Victoria University, Hobsons Bay City Council, Maribyrnong City Council and the Victorian Department of Health.

West Metro COVID-19 Vaccination Program Project Director Lisa Smith said that the pop-up clinic was a unique partnership between a state-run vaccination service and a GP-led clinic that aimed to boost vaccination rates in the west.

“It was a great example of different organisations in the west coming together with the shared goal of supporting the local community to get vaccinated. All the partners did a great job at getting the message out to the local community including Western Bulldogs supporters, Victoria University students, local residents and multicultural groups.

“We saw lots of local families and people of all ages turning up for their first dose, many of them wearing red, white and blue. Having Western Bulldogs AFLW player Isabel Huntington there to support vaccination efforts also added some extra excitement for the diehard Doggies fans.”

Vaccinations were administered by staff from the West Metro COVID-19 Vaccination Program and Dr Mukesh Haikerwal’s team from the Altona North GP Respiratory Clinic – Commonwealth Vaccination Centre.
