PEOPLE often remark that a good workplace fosters a feeling of being part of a family among staff.

For Amanda Sullivan and six members of her family, it’s almost like their employer of choice is in their genes.

Three generations of her family have clocked up 173 years of paid and volunteer at Bacchus Marsh and Melton Regional Hospital.

It began with Amanda’s mother Bernice Light, who served for a quarter of a century as a domestic staff member, while her dad Keith Light was the storeman for 24 years.

Their daughter Robyn Millar followed in her mother’s footsteps and is in her 15th year working as a domestic staff member. Her husband David Millar has been a volunteer at the hospital for 16 years.

Another daughter Jenny Noye was a domestic staff member for one year.

Their daughter Lindi McGrath worked in Administration 21 years.

Her daughter, Ashlea McGrath, who was keen on a career in caring, has been a nurse at Bacchus Marsh Hospital for 14 years.

Amanda, who has worked in administration at the hospital for 12 years, said part of the appeal of working at the hospital was that it was a stable employer with good working culture.

“I love it,” Amanda said.

“The most enjoyable part of the job is meeting new people and helping them,” she said.
