Dear colleagues,

You may notice a change to your payslip going forward due to a new requirement for Western Health to report more detailed information to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on earnings and tax details.

This will have no material impact on your pay, tax or superannuation.

Many different payment types will now be separately reported, and the breakdown of these will now appear on your payslip. Your payslip currently does not distinguish across some of these payment types and captures these in a single gross amount.

This is part of an Australian Government initiative, Single Touch Payroll (STP), designed to streamline employers’ reporting to government agencies. The data collected through STP has been expanded (known as STP Phase 2) to include additional information.

Including the additional information will support the administration of the social security system and help Services Australia’s customers get the right payment at the right time. It will also make it easier for you at tax time now there is better visibility of the types of income received for inclusion on your individual income tax return.

Western Health will be going live with this change in November.

You are not required to do anything as part of this change, and this will not result to any changes to your income statements for 2022/23 tax year.

For more details on this change, please see the supporting Single touch payroll phase 2 FAQs or access the ATO website.

Kind regards,

Joe Debono
